Single parent payment is an allowance for single parents who are looking after dependent children. The amount a single parent can receive depends on their individual circumstances. It is calculated using the Parenting Payment Single rate, which may change from time to time.

The Parenting Payment Single rate is based on the family’s income and assets, as well as the number and ages of the children. Currently, the highest rate for single parents is around $743.09 a fortnight before tax. Other rates depend on the family’s income.

In addition to the Parenting Payment Single, liquid assets (cash or investments) over $8,967 may affect the amount a single parent can receive. For every $1,500
